Built into the hill of Guereo, a fishing village in Senegal, the house overlooks the natural reserve, the mangroves and the bay of Somone. Its puristic architecture combines functionality and design, everything is reduced to the essential.

It’s a perfect place for meditation, creativity, positive energy, and leisure.

THE STORY BEHIND

We were sitting on the hill in Guereo overlooking the arid red Sahelian land and the blue Atlantic Ocean, far away from the noisy capital city of Dakar, enjoying the landscape and listening to the wind. We thought: this is a perfect place to be. The only thing we needed was a shelter for the night. However, we didn’t want to change the landscape by putting a house on the hill. We decided that it should be embedded within the hill.

Today, we sit on same the hill, chat, overlook the land and the ocean, listen to the wind and … when the night comes, we go for sleeping to our comfortable pit house, relaxed and reduced to the essential.

Stay

The house offers a unique place for relaxation to nature enthusiasts.

The concept is based on relationship between space and nature: designed by the German architect Otmar Veit, the house combines sobriety and functionality.
The concept is inspired by traditional African architecture: natural ventilation; the space between the house and the terrace protects its façade from direct solar irradiation, whereas the indirect skylights channel the natural warm sunlight to the rooms placed in the back without heating them up; the greened roof contributes to a comfortable microclimate.
The house does not have a TV; for its residents the spectacle is permanent: each room has a free view on the Atlantic Ocean, the mangroves and the fields.

The house is ideally placed for leisure and outdoor activities (kayak, surfing, swimming, jogging, trekking). It is a perfect location for those who love puristic architecture but do not want to renounce comfort.

The house offers on its 350 m2 generous space for up to 8 guests:
  • fully equipped kitchen
  • three spacious bedrooms sharing one spacious bathroom and a separate toilet
  • a parental suite with integrated spacious bathroom and a separate toilet
  • two spacious living rooms connecting with the open kitchen
  • laundry with washing machine
  • visitor’s toilet
  • an interior patio

  • generous terrace

  • refrigerator, 5 flame gas cooker, microwave, cookware and dishes
  • air condition on demand in all rooms
  • three double beds of 1,60 x 2,00 m, and in the parental suite one double bed of 1,80 x 2,00 m, all with orthopaedic mattresses
  • in each room a wardrobe combined with shelves
  • bedsheets and towels
  • tables and chairs for in and out
  • Drinking water fountain

INTERIOR

All furniture has been designed specifically for the house by designers from Germany, France and Senegal.

All woodwork has been handcrafted by a local master carpenter and blends harmoniously with the pure concrete to a soft ensemble.

SERVICES

An all-round service is provided thanks to a team composed of a cleaning lady, a gardener and a professional security guard.
You will have the control over your electricity costs thanks to a pre-paid meter. There is also a battery backup system in case of electricity cuts, which occur rarely.
In order to minimize your CO2 footprint, the house disposes of a solar water heater and a solar pump for the swimming pool.

The house is situated 1 hour’s drive from Dakar, 30 minutes’ drive from the international airport and 20 minutes next to restaurants and shopping malls in Somone and Saly.
